Tournament Rules

Each Tournament will have its own unique set of rules. You can view these by finding the respective event under “Events” in the navigation. However, some general rules and guidelines not found on other pages are placed here for your convenience.

Joining & Leaving Events

Whenever an event is open, you will find the event room in the room list. Once you have found it, join the room. Once in the room for the event in question, click on the Tournament Official’s name. (Officials normally have a ‘@’ or ‘.’ in front of their name). Referee does not run events, so the other Official in the room is running the event. After, right-click on them, select “Tournaments,” and then select “Join Tournament.” Select your superstar from the list. Remember: Use Unnamed for Unnamed events.

Be mindful of Superstar restrictions of the event you join. If you join with an invalid Superstar, you may be disqualified. This is to the discretion of the Tournament Official. This goes for naming Superstars in title matches as well.

If you have a Firewall, make sure that you select “Yes” for Firewall when you join. If you have a Firewall, fail to make the Tournament Official aware of it, and you cause a double firewall (“DFW”) as a result, you will lose the round, and your firewall status will be updated in the controller for future rounds in the event you signed up for.

By clicking Join and entering yourself into a tournament, you agree that you have read and understand all rules and guidelines herein, all terms within the WA!P2P Code of Conduct, as well as the specific rules for the event you joined. You also agree to abide by all of these terms, rules, and guidelines. Also by joining a tournament, you agree to participate in at least one round. Do not join just to drop from the event.

If you are late for Sign-ups, you may not play in the Tournament.

If you must leave the tournament early, it is important that you come back to the chat room and Drop officially by right-clicking on the Tournament Official’s name in the room and selecting “Drop from Tournament.”

If you do not drop before leaving, you will be paired in the next round and you will be no-showed!

Starting Rounds

When the round is paired, you will see your opponent and his or her Superstar in the chat. It is a good idea to pay close attention to their Firewall status as well. If your opponent has a Firewall and you do not, you should challenge them.

Be sure that you use the correct Superstar. If you use an incorrect Superstar, you will lose that match, unless your opponent allows you to change your Superstar.

You will have 10 minutes to start your matches before being no-showed. Please start your games as quickly as possible to avoid delaying the tournament.

Games that go overtime are draws. So keep track of time!

No shows

To No-show your opponent, click on the Tournament Official’s name (Officials normally have a ‘@’ or ‘.’ in front of their name) once the Referee signals for no-show time and select “Report No Show.” Once you do this, the Official of the event will see it and take care of it. Please keep in mind that this option is only available for 5 minutes AFTER the Referee calls for it. After that, you will not able to call a no-show.

Do not whisper the Tournament Official asking about the no-show. If you reported properly as outlined above, he or she received it and will take care of it.

Double Firewalls

All instances of a double firewall will be treated as a draw if the players cannot connect or if one doesn’t concede by the no-show time. This also means that you cannot concede and continue in the tournament UNLESS it is due to a double firewall. If there is no double firewall conflict and you concede, you must drop from the tournament.

Grab the Ropes

You may only play ONE Grab The Ropes in Official tournament matches (Nitro doesn’t count). You may have 5 in your deck, but you may only play 1. Breaking this rule results in being dropped from the tournament and loss of Title (if any).

This rule does not apply to Submission matches or matches without a turn limit.

This rule also does NOT apply to the Royal Rumble Word Title Tournament. In the Royal Rumble itself, you may play as many as you wish. However, it still applies to the title match.

Title Match Specifics

Title matches will be set to a turn limit of 60 UNLESS the match type for the title match is I Quit or Ladder, in which the turn limit will be set to 100.

Title matches have no time limit. That is, unlike round matches where you have 35 or 40 minutes to finish a game, you can take as long as needed to finish a Title match (within reason). This does not exclude you from being no-showed, however. Title matches should start 10 minutes after being made official, like round matches.

A double firewall in a title match will result in a vacant title.

The champion gets the “advantage” of knowing his or her opponent’s Superstar first. If there is no Champion (i.e., the title is vacant), both participants must whisper their Superstar to the Tournament Official.

You are allowed to provide Play by Play (PbP) for title matches; however, your opponent should be made aware of this beforehand and agree to it first. Remember, not everyone wants their Playbooks to be shared!

Title Account Usage

In title matches, the Champion of that event has ‘dibs’ on the account (Euro/IC/LHW). This means if the European Champion faces the LHW champ in the European Title match, the European Champion gets the account, etc.

This only affects the Intercontinental, European, and Light-Heavyweight Championships since they are the same account. If the IC Champion faces the Hardcore Champion, there is no first ‘dibs’ on the ‘.wac.’

This applies to Tournament matches as well.

In either case, if an agreement cannot be reached, both competitors will receive a draw for the round.

You may use a Title “.wac” of a Title that you do not hold so long as you have held that Title previously. However, you may not under any circumstances use the Title page in any match for a Title you do not hold, tournament or non-tournament. If you are caught using a title page of a Title you do not hold, you will lose that match and/or any Title you may have been competing for.

Intercontinental Championship

As we all know, this page has FACE and HEEL abilities.

The ability you use MUST be of your deck’s type. If you play FACE pages, you may only use the FACE ability. If you play HEEL pages, you may only use the HEEL ability. If the IC or US Champion breaks this rule, his or her title will immediately be stripped and he or she will be dropped from the tournament (if any). This does not mean you can use heel IC first, then play face pages (or the opposite) after. You will choose to either play face or heel, never allowed to play both.

Obviously, if your deck is neither, you may choose either.

This rule is NOT in effect in NO DISQUALIFICATION matches. If the match type is any type which has a no DQ stipulation, you may play the page in any way you like.

Conduct During Events

Quitting the game to avoid a loss will result in your disqualification from the tournament and a tournament ban of a minimum of six days.

Network interruptions DO happen. Please give your opponent the benefit of the doubt in most cases! If you have trouble connecting or if you get a network interruption during a game, come back to the chat area and try to reconnect with your opponent.

You should always turn on ‘Save Game Logs’ prior to the start of a tournament. Without a game log, the Tournament Official may not be able to make a ruling in your case.

Two people are not allowed to play from the same IP Address. If you and a friend, co-worker or family member try to play from the same house or office, you will both be disqualified. Please, only one person per connection!

By default, disconnection from a game in any form (including disconnections caused by computer error) results in a loss. At their discretion, the Tournament Official may choose to order a rematch or alter the result of the match based on the circumstances surrounding the disconnection. The decision of the Tournament Official may not be appealed for any reason.

You may not decktalk another player. Doing so will result in being dropped from the tournament and a tournament ban of a minimum of three days being put in place. Each offense increases the tournament ban by three days. After three offenses, server ban policies are subject to go into effect. For more details on what decktalk is, view Part 2 (Terms of Use), Section XIV of the WA!P2P Code of Conduct.

No non-tournament games in tournament rooms. Please play these games in the Locker_Room so you do not disrupt the event.

All rulings of the Tournament Official are final and may not be disputed. Do not accuse the Tournament Official of anything, like “rigging” for example. If there is a problem, you should contact an Administrator. Players are expected to adhere to the WA!P2P Code of Conduct at all times.
